RULES

The biggest thing to consider is that the competitors and support crew abide by the "spirit of the event"

• This basically means that you will carry all the compulsory gear, not look to cheat your way to an advantage, help anyone else who may need it (within reason- you are racing still!) take safe options along the way and have fun!

• By the way, GPS/Phones are prohibited with the obvious exception of using your phone to call the race director in an emergency.

1) The Competition

The course will be kept secret from competitors until the 'race briefing/ maps out' on the morning of the race. Competitors must follow the course and alternatives designed by the organisers and must race within the spirit of the competition.

Teams will be provided with a detailed list of checkpoints and will be informed as to each stage type at the race briefing.

The race will comprise of a number of checkpoints, (some will be compulsory and some will be optional) and one or more transition areas.

Transition Areas : Teams must sign in and out at the transition areas.

Checkpoints : Teams must 'beep' the supplied electronic dibber or record what's on the checkpoint control.

No GPS allowed, this includes smartphone apps, GPS watches etc.

2) Timing

The clock will start at the beginning of the race. Times will be recorded at each transition area and when the team crosses the line. When a team decides to rest at a checkpoint, the clock doesn’t stop.

3) Cut Offs and Alternative Courses

The organisers reserve the right to impose cut off times on sections of the race for logistic and safety reasons. These will be announced at the race briefing and noted in the competitors race instructions.

4) Placings and Awards

Placing is based on accumulated points that will include times/points adjusted for any time penalties/credits incurred during the race. If teams are tied on points, the team who finished first on the race timing clock will place higher.

5) Responsibility

Each competitor enters under their own responsibility. They can judge whether they should participate in the event, start and continue to the finish line. Nevertheless the organisers reserve the right to stop a competitor or team from setting off or continuing the event.

6) Support Crew

This year's 6 hour race doesn't require a support crew, the 12 and 24 our races do need a support crew.

7) Equipment

8) Jury

Any legitimate race protests will be reviewed by the race organisers. Any protest must be filed with the race organiser within half an hour of finishing the race.

9) Withdrawal

In the case of withdrawal of a team member or the entire team during the race, the team captain must inform the organisers by any means available in the shortest possible time. Failure to do so may result in a search and rescue operation. For a team to proceed on a new stage they must have at least 2 team members, they will finish unranked.

10) Time Penalties

You will earn points for checkpoints correctly recorded.  Points will be deducted for each minute over the 6/12/24 hour limit.

11) Disqualification

Unfair behaviour or behaviour that brings the race into disrepute, use of unauthorised equipment and abandonment of team member during the race.

Teams can be disqualified if they break any of the road rules.

12) Safety / Security

The race will be supported by comprehensive safety back up. Marshals with knowledge of the course will be placed at each transition area. These will be coordinated by a central control team that will keep a tab on the progress and whereabouts of each team.

13) Insurance

All participants compete at their own risk and the organisers will not accept liability for any personal accident or injury during the event. A liability waiver form must be signed by the team captain on behalf of the team. Competitors should ensure that they are adequately insured.

14) Consideration for the land

To enable us to run this event we have sought permission from a number of private land owners and DOC. It is important that we treat the land that we pass through with respect. To this end it is a requirement that all teams carry out their own rubbish. Support crews should be conscious of keeping the transition areas as they find them.

15) Officials

Team members and support crew must respect instructions given by officials and must also follow their decisions regarding health, security and safety.

16) Refunds

Teams who decide to cancel their entry are eligible for the following level of refunds: Up to July 30th, full refund, up to September 30th, 75% refund, up to October 20th, 50% refund. Entries cancelled after October 20th are eligible  for a 25% refund. 

Transfers to future races are always an option also.
